Serbian, Macedonian ministers on asylum seekers

Serbian and Macedonian Interior Ministers Ivica Dačić and Gordana Jankulovska agreed that it is in interest of both countries to solve issue of asylum seekers.

Serbian and Macedonian Interior Ministers Ivica Dacic and Gordana Jankulovska agreed that it is in interest of both countries to solve issue of asylum seekers. During the talks between the two, which focusedon the topic of the increased number of asylum seekers from the two countries after the EU visa liberalization, Dacic said that “our interest is for Europe not to get scared of the Western Balkans, because that could jeopardize the future of the region.” Serbian, Macedonian ministers on asylum seekers “Our mutual interest is to take all measures and act preventively. It should be investigated whether there are elements of a criminal act and sanction them immediately,” he said. According to Dacic, it is good and useful to show to the international community that the two countries have the initiative and desire to solve this problem quickly. The Macedonian interior minister pointed out that Serbia and Macedonia have joint problems and that they have to look for joint solution for the unpleasant situation which has arisen after the visa liberalization. “An intensive control of tourist agencies has begun in Macedonia in order to determine whether there were any abuses. We have taken all measures in order to solve this problem as soon as possible,” she said. The two ministers exchanged information on tourist agencies which are suspected of participating in the transport of people from Serbia and Macedonia to the countries of Western Europe. “Serbia and Macedonia have always had good police cooperation, which should be developed in the future because our problems are the same,” the Serbian interior minister said. A bus carrying Serbian citizens of Albanian ethnicity, five families with 19 members, who had been deported to Serbia by the Belgium authorities, arrived to Presevo yesterday, while the second bus, carrying 25 passengers who also did not receive asylum, went to Macedonia.
