Bujanovac Municipal President Saip Kamberi stated that economic underdevelopment of that part of Serbia caused a large number of citizens to go to EU countries. “It is certain that all those who left after the visa liberalization will come back,” Kamberi said and repeated that visa-free travel to the EU did not mean an opportunity to get political asylum. The Bujanovac municipal president stated that the government should act more energetically in solving the problems in southern Serbia, specifying that EU pre-accession funds should be used for faster economic development there. “The stability of the region means stability of the Western Balkans, and that’s both Europe's and Serbia’s interest,” Kamberi was quoted as saying. Belgium has started sending back ethnic Albanians from southern Serbia and Macedonia, described in that country as fake asylum seekers.
