The Serbian courts are expecting former Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency member Ejup Ganic to be arrested at any moment, officials said. War Crimes Prosecution spokesperson Bruno Vekaric told Banja Luka daily Nezavisne Novine that he did not want to give more detailed comments on what happened on Saturday at London’s Heathrow Airport, but he said that Ganic was held for six hours and his delegation was returned to Bosnia. Serbia expects Ganic arrest soon “It is true that the Serbian Justice Ministry asked Great Britain to extradite Ganic, but I cannot said anything until I receive confirmation that he has been arrested,” Vekaric said. Bosnian Justice Minister Barisa Colak said that he has no information on the extradition request for Ganic. He added that his Serbian counterpart Snezana Malovic cannot ask for Ganic’s extradition. “We know that about the agreement signed with Serbia, which is a key element of citizenship when we are talking about war crime and crimes against humanity. This means that someone who is accused of war crimes and is living in Bosnia, regardless of whether the person committed a crime in another country, will be tried in Bosnia, and such is the case in a reverse situation,” Colak said. Ganic denied that he was arrested, stating that he was not even detained at the airport. Bosnian Security Minister Sadik Ahmetovic said that he received information on the arrest of Ganic at the airport, but said that after some checks were done, it was confirmed that Ganic had gone through additional checks of his passport. The British embassy in Sarajevo could not confirm or deny the reports. The Serbian MUP issued a warrant for the arrest of 19 persons from Bosnia, among them Ganic, for the attack on a JNA column in May 1992 in Sarajevo.

“It is true that the Serbian Justice Ministry asked Great Britain to extradite Ganić, but I cannot said anything until I receive confirmation that he has been arrested,” Vekarić said.Bosnian Justice Minister Bariša Čolak said that he has no information on the extradition request for Ganić. He added that his Serbian counterpart Snežana Malović cannot ask for Ganić’s extradition.
