Parliament's Defense and Security Committee is due to meet today in Belgrade, to review a report on VBA's activities. Ahead of the committee meeting today, former army officer, now military analyst Ljubodrag Stojadinovic says there are "no sufficiently precise norms for deeper civilian control of the secret services". "Both VBA and BIA (civilian intelligence service) are in a position that they can reveal only the information that they choose, in any situation, and present their reports in a way that most suits them," said Stojadinovic. He added that this was the case "above all because there were either no mechanisms, or there were insufficient mechanisms that would enable for a subsequent checking of the source of that information, or because of the credibility of the very information coming from VBA and BIA."

The material has been designated as official secret.

Ahead of the committee meeting today, former army officer, now military analyst Ljubodrag Stojadinović says there are "no sufficiently precise norms for deeper civilian control of the secret services".
