State officials in Kosoov who are receiving more than one paycheck are committing a crime and made to pay the money back. This is according to the officials of the Ministry for Kosovo. Double wages in Kosovo illegal Even though the Serbian administration in Kosovo is too large and expensive, the state still has no strategy for making it effective, and remove the burden of financing the administration from the shoulders of taxpayers. Some officials in the provincial administration were even getting more than one paycheck. The ministry stated that accepting more than one wage is a crime and that the money must be returned. Serbia sets aside a lot of money each year for Kosovo, but the question is whether the money goes where it is supposed to. Taxpayers pay EUR 13mn for 3,5000 officials in Serb municipalities, some of which do not reside in Kosovo. Ministry’s State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic told B92 Radio today that it was confirmed that at least 240 officials were getting at least two wages and that they should be prosecuted in order to get the money back. Minister Goran Bogdanovic, however, says that the state has done everything it can to solve this problem, which he says was inherited. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the local administrations to take care of the problem. “The local administration made these decisions, not the ministry. I formed an internal commission the first day I arrive to the position, to confirm how many people were working in the local administration, whether people were working in two or more places and I got to that data,” he said. Bogdanovic also said that no one was given a job in the local administration last year without the go-ahead of the ministry. He saddedaid that reforms in the Kosovo administration will be completed just like in any other part of Serbia, and that the ministry will continue to try and control the spending of state money set aside for the province.
