Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic said that Turkey is ready to invest in Serbia and that relations between the two countries have “never been better”. Ljajic visited Turkey during the Christmas holiday period in Serbia to continue talks between the two countries started with the visit of Turkish President Abdullah Gul in October of last year, Belgrade daily Danas writes. Ljajic: Turkey ready to invest Ljajic met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. According to the minister, a trilateral meeting between Serbian, Turkish and Bosnian officials was agreed on, which will be held in Belgrade on January 15 between foreign ministers of the three countries. “The topic of the meeting will be stabilizing the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the region, which calls for a continued process and work on that goal. It is also necessary to involve Croatia in the solving of these questions,” Ljajic told Danas. Ljajic said that there was also talk during his visit of Turkish investments in the development of the “Sandzak region and all of Serbia”. As far as concrete projects that will be realized in Sandzak this year are concerned, Ljajic said that the visit to Turkey was a chance to confirm the planned dynamics. “The construction of two roads will begin, from Novi Pazar to Sjenica and from Novi Pazar to Tutin. 15 percent of the value of this project has been set aside from the Serbian budget, while Turkey’s Eximbank will secure 85 percent of the money needed. A Turkish company will handle the work and will hire Serbian sub-contractors,” Ljajic said. He added that the Turkish development agency TIKA will be investing money in the restoration and reconstruction of downtown Novi Pazar and the development of the industrial zone in Tutin. Ljajic also said that a Turkish delegation will arrive in Belgrade in several months’ time to discuss cooperation with Serbian institutions for forming a cultural Islamic center in Belgrade. Ljajic said that the center would deal “more with cultural than religious issues” and that an agreement was necessary in order to determine “how it would be functioning”. Another investment, worth EUR 13mn, was discussed, and concerns turning the Ladjevci military airport in western Serbia to civilian use. Ljajic said that this project would be realized during this year, and that a part of the money would come from Serbian and Turkish budgets.
