Former Serbian Army Chief of the General Staff Gen. Zdravko Ponos has officially retired from active professional service. It was announced in Belgrade today that President Boris Tadic signed a decree to this end on December 31. Former Army chief officially retires A year ago, Ponos was replaced as the head of Serbia's military. He was appointed to that position after the breakup of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro. Ponos today commented by saying that he "does not know what he will do in the future", and that while he was still professional soldier, he "could not look for another job". The media in Belgrade speculated several months ago that Ponos might join the diplomatic service once he retired from the military.
