Rasim Ljajic said that he will resign as the coordinator of the action team for Hague cooperation. This announcement comes because of his "bad assessment" that Ratko Mladic would be arrested by the end of 2009. Ljajic to resign as action team chief Ljajic told Belgrade daily Politika that he must take responsibility for the fact that the main Hague fugitive was not arrested and extradited to the tribunal by the end of the year, even though 2009 was the most successful year for Hague cooperation, "which was confirmed by Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz’s most recent cooperation report". “I cannot imagine myself saying again in a month or two that (Mladic) will be arrested by the end of 2010. Simply, you must be ready to take responsibility for what was said,” Ljajic was quoted. But he revealed he would remain as the National Council for Hague Cooperation chief, because it deals with other issues such as documentation, archives and witnesses, and has successfully cooperation with the tribunal for many years. Asked whether a new coordinator will be named to act along the other – War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic – Ljajic said that “there is no need to name someone new” adding that his resignation will not negatively effect the "excellent work of the team". “Maybe someone in the team will take over, but I do not expect that someone from the outside will be called into the team,” he said.
