Hague Tribunal mandate extended through 2012

The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the Hague Tribunal until the end of 2012. This was announced by the United Nations in New York on Wednesday. Hague Tribunal mandate extended through 2012 The war crimes tribunal, known formally as the ICTY, is supposed to end all appeal proceedings by the end of 2012, while judges should end their work by June 2010. Five trials should be completed in 2010, three in 2011, while the trial against former Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic should end by the end of 2012, Hague Tribunal President Patrick Robinson stated earlier this month. Nine trials against 24 persons and 13 appeal proceedings are currently in progress before the court. The UNSC has also decided to extend the mandate of the International Criminal Court for Rwanda until 2012.
