SNS leader to urge new elections

Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolić said that he will be calling for early parliamentary elections.

Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic said that he will be calling for early parliamentary elections. “The right time for announcing the elections is running out for the Democratic Party (DS). I will ask for them to be held next year. The parliament is illegitimate, because it does not reflect the distribution of power on the political scene,” Nikolic told daily Vecernje novosti. SNS leader to urge new elections He said that he is convinced that his party’s victory in the Belgrade municipality of Vozdovac opened the door for a victory in all of Serbia, and said that he believes that a government run by SNS with DS as a weaker partner is possible. He said that he sees DSS-NS in his victory bloc, but said that this alliance will not happen if DSS leader Vojislav Kostunica continues his stance of opposing Serbia’s European integration. “I see DSS and NS in our bloc, without LDP, who is not in the opposition. I could not include SRS. I offered them too much and they ruined too much,” Nikolic said. He said that he has been saying for six years already that he wants Serbia to join the European Union. “I have not starting saying this recently. That is why I was thrown out of SRS. We are surrounded by the Union,” he said. Nikolic said that he expects Kostunica to give his answer in the coming days of whether he will back EU integration. “I cannot form a coalition with someone who doesn’t want Serbia to join the EU. You cannot form a government based on differing ideas,” the SNS leader said.

SNS leader to urge new elections

He said that he is convinced that his party’s victory in the Belgrade municipality of Voždovac opened the door for a victory in all of Serbia, and said that he believes that a government run by SNS with DS as a weaker partner is possible.

He said that he sees DSS-NS in his victory bloc, but said that this alliance will not happen if DSS leader Vojislav Koštunica continues his stance of opposing Serbia’s European integration.

“I see DSS and NS in our bloc, without LDP, who is not in the opposition. I could not include SRS. I offered them too much and they ruined too much,” Nikolić said.

He said that he has been saying for six years already that he wants Serbia to join the European Union.

“I have not starting saying this recently. That is why I was thrown out of SRS. We are surrounded by the Union,” he said.

Nikolić said that he expects Koštunica to give his answer in the coming days of whether he will back EU integration.

“I cannot form a coalition with someone who doesn’t want Serbia to join the EU. You cannot form a government based on differing ideas,” the SNS leader said.
