The Serbian president and the leader of the Democrats (DS), Boris Tadic today marked "the 20th anniversary of the renewal of the party's work". He told those gathered for the presentation of a book entitled, "The History of the Democratic Party", that the idea of "Serbia within Europe, with its own identity" is the essence of the political program of modern Serbia and DS. "DS stands for Serbia in EU with own identity" Tadic said that a national and political agreement is a characteristic of DS since its very foundation, adding that this is one of his primary goals as the current party leader. "I constantly work on making a political agreement on two crucial goals – preservation of territorial integrity and the European future, but also on the idea of social justice," Tadic underscored. According to him, DS will have a consistent ideological axis at its left center, but at the same time it will fight for the continuation of the legitimization of national goals and Serbia's interests. "We are also trying to legitimize national goals, placing before us a different concept than that of the nineties, when national interests came down to nationalism and chauvinism," Tadic pointed out. In the time to come, the ruling DS, "which is faced with challenges that are awaiting Serbia", has to be reformed, and as such, "head down the path of centralization" – which will be realized at the same time as the process of Serbia's decentralization, said he. "Only a centralized DS can help achieve a decentralization of Serbia in a way that would preserve the integrity of our country," Tadic said. Tadic reads his party's history (Beta)
