SNS win big in Belgrade municipality If the final tallies mirror these results, SNS will have 26 seats in the local assembly of this Belgrade municipality, and the DS coalition will have 20. The Democratic Party of Serbia-New Serbia (DSS-NS) coalition took 8.57 percent of the vote, which will give them six seats. The Socialist Party of Serbia-led coalition (SPS-PUPS-JS) will receive four seats with 6.54 percent of the vote. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), G17 Plus, and the Serb Radical Party (SRS) all failed to cross the five percent threshold and will not have councilors in the new local assembly. SNS President Tomislav Nikolic, whose party is in opposition on the state level, said that a lot of effort by party activists was necessary for the victory, despite the campaign which “looked to be for some people, who are in power, a question of life and death.” He said that the ruling parties tried to fool the voters but “ran into the defiance of the Vozdovac residents, who did not want to be bought and did not want to be treated like they do not have a right to their lives.” “The residents of Vozdovac decided to move ahead together with SNS and take their lives into their own hands. We want to tell Serbia that this is what the next [general] elections will look like,” Nikolic said, calling on the government to “stop repeating elections in which SNS win, because they will experience an even more convincing loss.” DS City Board President and Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas congratulated SNS on the win and thanked those who voted for the DS-led list. “I congratulate SNS on the victory. The coalition that was in power obviously did not meet the expectations of the people of Vozdovac. And that is a fact that every party that participated in the government should learn from,” he said. “As far as DS is concerned, we will continue to fight for the values and goals which the citizens trusted us to fight for. I think all voters that voted for us in such big numbers,” Djilas added. SNS officials await the results last night (Tanjug)
