"UK visas could be abolished in 2011"

BELGRADE -- British Ambassador to Belgrade Stephen Wordsworth said that the visa regime the citizens of Serbia could be abolished in 2011.

“Britain is not a part of the Schengen Area. Our border services estimate immigration risk every year, and as a result we abolish visas for some countries and introduce them for others,” the ambassador said.

According to him, the next such evaluation will be in 2011.

“I hope we will be able to abolish visas for the Serbian citizens by then, but our ministers will make the decision,” Wordsworth told Belgrade daily Danas.

The EU yesterday scrapped visa requirements for Serbians traveling to the Schengen Area, which currently does not include the UK and Ireland, and also Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania.
