Political analyst Vladimir Goati said that he cannot imagine the opposition parties uniting and being victorious without a united pro-European platform. The condition for a united opposition in Serbia and its victory in the elections is that its leaders must have a united pro-European platform, and put aside tensions and party priorities, he said. “Opposition will not unite” At this moment, a majority of the citizens want to enter the EU and a victory of anti-European forces in Serbia is unimaginable,” Goati told daily Danas. “It is hard to imagine any kind of coalition for forming a new government without the cement that would unite the opposition. In this sense, it is impossible to change the stance of the DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia) on European integration, since the biggest party in this coalition would be SNS (Serbian Progressive Party). As far as Tomislav Nikolic’s party joining a coalition with SRS (Serb Radical Party) is concerned, I think that this is also more of a science-fiction film script than anything else,” Goati said. He said that there has been an obsession with the EU by the public and that most citizens look at the tempo of European integration when deciding what party to support. “I don’t believe that anyone would think to support Serbia not joining the Union and being able to count on a good rating and support from the voters. The people’s obsession with the EU is seen in the endless lines for getting new passports ahead of the abolishment of the visa regime,” Goati said. Vladimir Goati (archive)
