Coordinator of the Hague action team Rasim Ljajic says the arrest of indictee Ratko Mladic's aides was apparently a mistake. "From this viewpoint, it would have been better if those aides had been used as potential leads toward Mladic," Ljajic told reporters in Belgrade. Ljajic agrees arrest of helpers was "mistake" He also reminded that Mladic is the goal rather than his helpers, Beta news agency reported, hence the fact that he has not yet been located and delivered to the tribunal is also a mistake. According to Ljajic, Mladic's aides, who are currently on trial, were arrested because Serbia was accused of not cooperating with the tribunal at the time. "From the operative standpoint, the arrest was a mistake. Serbia was under great pressure from the tribunal. It was said that we were not cooperative with the tribunal, and that we were doing nothing to locate the indictees. At the time, four indictees were at large, and that was the step meant to demonstrate our readiness to cooperate," he said. Ljajic went on to say he is unable to talk about the steps that will be taken and reiterated that the arrest is of top priority, "because at the moment it is the main obstacle on Serbia's road to the EU." According to him, the latest report on Serbia's cooperation with the tribunal, which he has been able to read and which Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will present in early December, is to be "realistic, objective and above all positive." "This is the first report without a single objection, it highlights the tribunal prosecution's satisfaction with the level of cooperation and the effort Serbia is making to wrap up cooperation, hence I expect the report to be adequately evaluated by other members of the international community," Ljajic said.
