The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) will not support the draft Vojvodina statute in parliament. Speaking in a news conference in Belgrade on Monday, party leader Vojislav Kostunica also announced that they would initiate proceedings before the Constitutional Court. Statute subject of trade-offs, charges DSS Kostunica claimed that the draft, the debate on which is due to start tomorrow in parliament, was subject of partisan trade-offs. He also announced protests in Sabac, Ruma, Pancevo, and other towns. “Its first feature is that this whole creation would be incredibly expensive – enlargement of the administration, very complicated procedures, and that means that this creation will be dysfunctional,” Kostunica said. “Its creators, besides an attempt to create a state within a state, actually did not think or were not able to think through all the consequences of such an unusual, truly unusual creation,” the DSS leader stated.
