The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) announced that it will not be voting in support of the draft for Vojvodina’s new statute. The party also stated that it will call for a check of the proposed statute’s constitutionality. SNS to vote against statute “We are aware of the great pressure that the Constitutional Court can face in this situation, we are aware of the way in which the judges of our Constitutional Court were elected, but that is our legal and legitimate Constitutional Court,” SNS legal advisor Nikola Selakovic said. He announced that SNS MPs will vote against both the statute draft and the accompanying law for transferring authorities to Vojvodina once the parliamentary debate is finished. “The project will not create it right away, but it will surely lead to the secession of the autonomous province of Vojvodina,” Selakovic said, adding that with the adoption of the statute and the law for transferring authorities to Vojvodina, the province will have more rights than it had according to the 1974 constitution. He said that the adoption of these acts will transfer all Serbian property located on Vojvodina’s territory to the autonomous province, and that Serbia will be left without much of the property located on its territory.
