EU Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin met with Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, calling him one of the pillars of political stability in Serbia. Dacic, who is also first deputy PM, met the Slovenian politician in Brussels and thanked all the regional rapporteurs for their support in the efforts of Serbia towards visa liberalization. Dacic "pillar of stability", says EU rapporteur He also "jokingly warned" EU officials not to "scare Serbs with announcements that visas would be abolished by Christmas". Serbs are Orthodox Christians and celebrate that holiday on January 7. Dacic said that EU officials assured him that visas would be abolished on December 19, after which Serbian citizens are expected to be able to travel freely throughout the EU's so-called white Schengen zone. Dacic also presented the progress Serbia has made in police work and other fields related to his ministry. Kacin congratulated Dacic on the success of achieving all goals of visa abolishment. Kacin asked Dacic "several questions" regarding Serbia’s protection of human rights, paying special attention to the cancellation of the Belgrade Parade gay parade. Reports said that the Serbian minister "guaranteed" that "politics" would take a much clearer stance in the future on such issues, and not stand by the side. “It is not a case of relations towards sexual orientations, but relations towards basic human rights,” Dacic said. Asked about crime in Serbia, Dacic said that a paradox has occurred, adding that since Yugoslavia collapsed, its criminals have connected "to achieve full cooperation", but also praised police cooperation in the region, specifying that Serbia has "great cooperation" with Slovenia and the country's interior minister Katarina Kresal. Dacic thanked Slovenia for the support and cooperation for the early abolishment of visas, and stressed the importance of continuous cooperation with Kacin. Dacic’s cabinet stated that the minister will be meeting with Kacin again in Belgrade on November 22.
