President Boris Tadic said that Serbian police (MUP) Saturday’s Morava operation was the first phase of Serbia’s battle against organized crime and corruption. “This is not the action of any specific ministry, rather the state of Serbia and the Council for National Security giving orders for what institutions and services should be doing what job,” Tadic said regarding the Morava action in which over 500 suspected drug dealers were arrested Saturday morning. Tadic: MUP operation "only first phase" He said that citizens have seen over the last several months that the state has had good results in the fight against organized crime and production. “These efforts of the state will continue in the coming period. All these actions are part of a well-thought-out plan which should result in an essential success in the fight against organized crime and corruption,” he said. Tadic added that the efforts of the state are aimed at rooting out organized crime and corruption, which may be more important than European integration, because it is a prerequisite for integration. Success in the fight against organized crime and corruption is also a prerequisite for a better and safer life for Serbian citizens and for the economic prosperity of the country, Tadic said. “We will continue the fight against organized crime and corruption. The Council for National Security will continue to lead the coordination of the entire process with all ministries doing their jobs,” Tadic said. The President congratulated Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, the state ministries, security service chiefs and the prosecution for a job well done. “We expect that we will have reforms of the legislature soon, along with essential and real potential to end this process which should result in long prison sentences for the leaders of organized crime and corruption in our country,” Tadic concluded.
