First Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic on Friday visited Novi Pazar in Sandzak (the Raska District), in southwestern Serbia. The situation in that region is stable but that there is latent danger of sudden incitement to instability, Tanjug quoted Dacic as saying. "This region will certainly become an area of latent interest of many persons who are not happy with Serbia's future membership in the European Union, and could become a place where some new seeds of ethnic intolerance and inter-ethnic conflict might be sown," he was quoted as saying. Serbia's priorities are peace and stability, fighting crime, corruption and terrorism and prevention of smuggling across borders and administrative line, Dacic said. Turkish President Abdullah Gul will not visit Novi Pazar next week during his visit to Serbia as had been announced, but this has nothing to do with the security situation assessments, the minister explained. During the recent visits of U.S. Vice-President Joseph Biden and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Serbian police demonstrated their capability to successfully face security risks, according to Dacic.
