Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen is due to visit Belgrade soon, though the visit’s itinerary is still unknown, writes daily Politika. Verhagen’s visit is expected in the next few weeks, though the exact date has yet to be announced, Politika understands from the Dutch Foreign Ministry. "Verhagen to visit Belgrade soon" Explaining that Verhagen would be making an announcement ahead of his visit to Belgrade, the ministry said that Verhagen’s official statement regarding his recent meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic in New York was important in that context. The aforesaid statement noted, inter alia, that “Holland acknowledges that Serbia has improved cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.“ The Dutch minister added that he wished “to urge Serbia to continue cooperation,“ and that a “positive signal is warranted.“ Nonetheless, he reiterated that EU documents did not yet state that Belgrade was cooperating with the Hague Tribunal, adding that this was “a prerequisite for implementation and ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement.“ By the looks of things, Verhagen again appears only ready to make a visit where there would be no discussion of the SAA. Nor was he willing to discuss the matter earlier in the summer with his colleagues in the EU Council of Ministers, when he was only willing to approve a handful of trade privileges for Serbia, a proposal that was rejected. The foreign minister enjoys the full support of the Dutch parliament for his unflinching position towards Belgrade that there can be no SAA without the arrest of Ratko Mladic.
