EULEX and Serbian Interior Ministry officials will meet in early October to discuss implementation of the police cooperation protocol, daily Kosova Sot reports. EULEX spokesman Christophe Lamfalussy told the paper that implementation of the protocol between the EU mission and MUP had still not begun. "EU-MUP protocol to begin application in October" “The protocol on police cooperation with Belgrade has come into force, but has still to be used. There has been no exchange of information since the signing of the agreement. EULEX is planning to hold a meeting with its Serbian colleagues at the beginning of October in order to harmonize ways of implementing this technical arrangement,“ Lamfalussy added. EULEX has asked for an agreement to be reached with the Kosovo Police giving it access to the police’s files. However, Kosovo Police officials stress that it would only be applying the Law on Police, the Kosovo Constitution and the command chain throughout the province. Lamfalussy said that discussions were continuing on the signing of a memorandum with the Kosovo police. He also denied that talks had been held with Belgrade over protocols in the spheres of customs and justice. “We’ve not discussed them yet. These so-called protocols on customs and justice are still at the stage of internal drafts. EULEX is conferring with Council of Europe experts in Brussels. No draft has been exchanged between Belgrade and Pristina. Talks haven’t begun,“ he stressed.
