Kosovo Deputy Foreign Minister Vlora Qitaku says that the Kosovo institutions have submitted their application to participate in the ICJ debate. Pristina expects the results of the debate before the International Court of Justice regarding the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration to end positively for them. Pristina submits application for ICJ hearing “Through our lawyer, we’ve sent an application to the ICJ to participate in the oral debate,” Qitaku told daily Koha Ditore. The deadline for registering expired on Tuesday. “We believe that the ICJ will publish the application some time next week,” she added. According to Koha Ditore’s sources, the Kosovo Interior Ministry says that the U.S., UK, France and other countries that support Kosovo independence have already sent statements and comments on the issue to the ICJ. The UN and its member-states, together with representatives of the Kosovo authorities, will be able to put forward their own arguments at the debate, regardless of whether or not they have already submitted written testimony. On October 8 last year, the UN General Assembly adopted a Serbian resolution to bring the question of the legality of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence before the ICJ. The court will give a non-binding advisory opinion on the matter. Since its creation in 1946, the ICJ has ruled in 25 bilateral disputes. Canada won't participate in ICJ oral debate

Canada will not be taking part in the oral debate on the legality of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence at the ICJ, Beta understands from Ottawa.
