Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic says the agreement between EULEX and the Serbian Interior Ministry should be signed by the end of September. He said that the document would define mechanisms for combating all forms of crime in the province. Minister: EULEX-MUP deal in late September "Even though it is a conventional political agreement defining the struggle against all forms of crime in Kosovo, including human trafficking and arms and drug smuggling, which should be in the interests of all sides, the authorities in Pristina aren’t interested in seeing these issues resolved," Bogdanovic said in an interview for Belgrade daily Blic published on Wednesday. “Someone in Pristina does not want these questions addressed, because we all know that Kosovo is a black hole in arms, narcotics and human smuggling," the minister said. "It is obvious that someone has an interest in all that. Hence the logical question—why did Pristina not object when EULEX signed similar working arrangements with other states, such as Macedonia, Albania, or Montenegro," Bogdanovic wondered. “The agreement is in the spirit of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 1244,” the minister stressed, meaning that there were no grounds for concerns expressed by certain individuals that its signing would imply a direct recognition of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence. “The EU itself has given its support to this protocol and has stressed that EULEX is a body that independently concludes such agreements,” he explained.
