Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic is today in Sweden, the country that currently holds the rotating EU presidency. Jeremic met with his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt this morning, and will later hold talks with Minister for EU Affairs Cecilia Malstrom and International Development Minister Gunilla Karlsson. Jeremic meets with Sweden's Bildt After talks with Bildt in Stockholm, Jeremic said that Belgrade wanted to help Sweden be successful in the Balkans during its presidency of the EU. The minister stressed that there had been talk of bilateral relations during the meeting, but that the emphasis had been placed on accelerating the European integration process for Serbia and all the Balkan countries. “The key to beginning that process is visa liberalization, and a decision on this is due to be taken by the end of the year,“ he said. “There was also talk of the conference between the Balkan countries and the EU in December in Brussels, when we’ll have a chance to discuss practical matters, such as the economy and the world economic crisis, and how to deal with it,“ added Jeremic. The minister said that he would soon be meeting with Bildt again in New York and then in Brussels. The Swedish minister voiced his satisfaction with the meeting with Jeremic, stating that the key themes had been the region, bilateral cooperation between Sweden and Serbia, and Serbia’s continued EU integration. “We also considered the issue of visa liberalization for citizens of Serbian and some other countries in the region during the Swedish EU presidency, as well as the issue of practical steps that Belgrade should take over the next few months,“ said Bildt. According to the Serbian Foreign Ministry, during his stay, Jeremic will also hold talks with the chairmen of the Swedish Parliamentary Committees for Foreign Affairs and the EU.
