Opposition New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilic says he doesn't wish to distance himself from a statement made earlier that he would use his pistol if in danger. Ilic has a license to carry the weapon, while, according to his statements, "it will be up to him when to use it". Ilic said that he was seriously injured several months ago in his daughter’s apartment and that there had never been an investigation into the incident. Asked by B92 whether he still believes that it is right to use a gun if he feels endangered, Ilic said: “It is my business what I'll use. I have to protect myself as a citizen.” Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated recently that Ilic never officially asked the police to have security provided for him, but "complained on several occasions and asked for various events to be checked, which was done". Regarding Ilic’s statement about the use of weapons, Dacic said that the law is the same for everyone, and that "no one is allowed to hand out their own justice".
