Opposition New Serbia Leader Velimir Ilic accused the authorities in Serbia on Tuesday of covering up the enormous amount of problems in the country. According to Ilic, they do so by "producing scandals". "Elections only solution to problems" The NS leader believes that early parliamentary elections are the only way to overcome such a situation. Ilic told a news conference in Belgrade that "the regime is fabricating scandals in order to cover up the problems", and that one of the scandals refers to the purchase of apartments at the price that is below the market price over the previous years. He underscored that apartments were distributed for years, not only during the two cabinets led by Vojislav Kostunica, and added that every abuse should be investigated fully, "and not only those cases that media link with Kostunica's government". Kostunica's DSS and NS form a coalition, while Ilic served in the previous cabinet. Today, he told reporters that the situation in the country "has never been worse", and that besides problems encountered in the economy and agriculture, high unemployment figures, and worsening standard of living, "there is also huge political instability that is reflected in the fact that the ruling coalition does not have the majority [in parliament]".
