Unions say that between 32,000 and 33,000 workers are currently on strike in Serbia. The Alliance of Independent Unions (SSS) says its data shows that the strikers "work or have worked" for 29 different companies, and that most protest over unpaid wages. Tens of thousands on strike across Serbia Unpaid severance, health and pension insurance money follow on the list of reasons prompting workers to embark on strikes. Some 70 workers from Belgrade's Srbolek pharmaceutical company will gather in front of the management building today demanding overdue wages and tax payments. Their representatives say the strike will continue until their demands have been met. Workers in a Titel-based fruit and vegetable processing plant are protest for the same reasons. They saw their last paychecks three months ago ,while the company failed to make their pension and other insurance payments for the past year. The management is now saying it is willing to settle the debts toward the workers, but adds that "production needs to start again as well".
