Kosovo police, KPS, believe there's no risk of terrorism after a group of men was arrested in the U.S. for planning attacks in Kosovo and elsewhere. "There are no indications that such attacks are possible and residents of Kosovo have no reason to worry," KPS spokesman Besim Hoti was quoted by Radio Free Europe. KPS: No fear of terrorism in Kosovo He also added that police "undertook all measures in order to prevent attacks". The seven suspects arrested in the United States include 24-year-old Hysen Sherifi, an ethnic Kosovo Albanian with permanent residence status stateside. The media reported that he spent time in Kosovo in order to take part in the holy Muslim war – Jihad – but the reports do not mention if he had participated in an armed assault. KPS confirmed that Sherifi was in Kosovo in July of last year, and said that information about his stay and activities was handed over to the United States. KPS did not reveal what kind of information was in question, but Hoti said there was "no reason to panic". Arben Cirezi, whom Beta news agency says has knowledge in security issues, stated there should be caution, since Kosovo is not immune to terrorism, "because it supports American policy". He said that the group planned attacks on American interests, "including those in Kosovo", and deduced that this means "there are people in Kosovo who support similar actions". Cirezi said that should such an attack occur, "it would be a heavy blow not only to the image of Kosovo, but would also have the American public reexamining the administration's policy toward Kosovo in the past 10 years", and concluded this would be "very damaging to Kosovo". This analyst said radical Islamist group mostly recruit young people, especially those from marginalized social structures, and advised "the government and NGOs to work to encompass them so that these organizations fail in recruiting new members".
