Deputy leader of the opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar Vucic says the government should call for early elections. He justified this by saying that the authorities are not able to cope with the crisis. SNS slams govt., wants "New Deal" "Serbia needs new hope, new perspective and new policy, a fresh start – a New Deal," Vucic stated in Belgrade on Saturday. "It is abundantly clear that the government of Serbia is not capable of coping with the citizens' basic problems, the growing economic crisis and the fact that more and more people are going hungry, with upcoming strikes, protests and demonstrations," said he. Vucic added the governments is attempting to solve the problems with "dictatorial measures and laws that the civilized world does not know", and stressed that new elections would be the best solution. According to him, in the wake of a catastrophe, "something that will have the citizens' trust and represent different measures in the social and economic sphere is in order". "[Finance] Minister [Diana] Dragutinovic's announcements that a new hike in income and property taxes will follow, where those that manage to earn something will be additionally burdened, and announced VAT increase, means that the goal will be a total destruction of the domestic production so that they [the government] can survive for another six months until the moment they intend to call elections," Vucic concluded.
