EU Foreign and Security Policies Chief Javier Solana is continuing his final tour of the region in that capacity with a visit to Pristina. According to reports, Solana is due to meet in Pristina with Kosovo President and Prime Minister Fatmir Sejdiu and Hashim Thaci. EU chief to call for better cooperation with EULEX The only official announcement on the EU high representative’s visit to Pristina has come from EULEX, which stated that he would be meeting with the mission’s chief, Yves de Kermabon, during the day, before addressing EULEX personnel at the mission’s HQ in the evening. Ahead of his visit, local media state that Solana has been one of leading lights in guiding international policy on the province in the last ten years since the NATO air strikes, when he was secretary-general of NATO, through to dispatching the EU’s biggest ever civilian mission to Kosovo. The media expect Solana to use the visit to Pristina to stress the need for energetic and far-reaching reforms, which need to be carried out if the EU’s doors are to be opened to Kosovo any time soon. The first stop on the EU high representative’s tour was Belgrade, where he insisted that there were no new conditions for Serbia EU integration, including recognition of Kosovo unilateral independence.
