Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu says that Kosovo will soon be naming ambassadors for 18 countries. Sejdiu said that he saw no reason to state the names of the ambassadors until he received the go-ahead from the countries they were being sent to. Of course, I will not state the names because we need to reach an agreement with all the countries that we will be sending them to. We must continue normal communications pursuant to the Vienna Convention, the laws of these countries, and the relevant Kosovo laws,” the president said. He left open the possibility of opening additional embassies in two neighboring countries, Montenegro and Macedonia, once they were ready to raise their relations with Kosovo to ambassador level. Kosovo Albanian authorities opened up ten embassies last year, led by charge d’affaires. Under the Kosovo diplomatic services law, based on the Martti Ahtisaari proposal, Pristina announced a competition for ambassadors in 18 different countries, which is not common practice in any other country. Kosovo announced competitions for consular positions and other diplomatic jobs in these embassies at the same time.
