Regional development law adopted
The Serbian parliament adopted on Wednesday in Belgrade a bill on regional development that envisages Serbia's division into seven statistical regions.

The Serbian parliament adopted on Wednesday in Belgrade a bill on regional development that envisages Serbia's division into seven statistical regions. This is meant to reduce regional differences and promote of their development, reports said. Regional development law adopted Serbia will be divided into the following regions: Vojvodina, Belgrade, Western, Eastern, Central, Southern, and Kosovo and Metohija. According to the level of their development, the regions will be classified into two groups - those that have more than 75 percent of the average per capita GDP and those that have less, while according to local self-government development, they are divided into four groups. The law sets economic criteria based on which the regions are divided into developed and underdeveloped. The basic development priorities of the state's regional development will be defined by the national plan, drafted by the relevant ministry and adopted by the parliament for a ten year period. The regional strategy adopted by the government, pursuant to the national plan, will define the basic priorities of the regional development and means of its implementation.
