A ruling coalition was agreed last night in the municipality of Kosjeric, the DS’s candidate Dragan Vujadinovic confirmed to B92. A coalition agreement has been signed between the Democratic Party (DS), G17 Plus, the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). Ruling coalition teams up in western municipality The Kosjeric municipal assembly will hold its constitutive session on July 14. The agreement finally comes 23 days after local elections were held in the municipality, situated in western Serbia. Future Municipal President Vujadinovic said that the deal had been signed and sealed. “A coalition agreement has been signed between the DS, which has eight councilors, the SPS coalition with three, the SPO with two, and G17 with one. That makes 14 altogether, which is just above the 50 percent of the total number of councilors—27—in the municipal assembly,“ he explained. The Serb Progressive Party’s candidate Milijan Stojanic called the new coalition “short-lived and bad“ and formed against the will of the electorate. Stojanic said that it had been formed on Belgrade’s orders, to duplicate the republic coalition, which was detrimental to Serbia. However, Vujadinovic said that the coalition agreement had been made without any central pressure from the capital, and that the parties had been guided chiefly by local interests. “In principle, we all had a mandate and the authority to decide and act independently. I think the other parties, given the low number of councilors, did this together. They had their own autonomous approach and demands in part, but they also came together with their party HQs in Belgrade,“ he explained. The new local authorities plan to spend budget funds rationally, while the majority of municipal officials would be volunteers or would receive symbolic remuneration for their work, Vujadinovic said.
