The summit of heads of state of Central European countries in Novi Sad was "the most effective so far", says President Boris Tadic. The Serbian president told the reporters late on Saturday that the summit was held in a political and economic atmosphere characterized by energy instability, caused by the shortage of gas during the previous winter and the economic crisis, and the enthusiasm for further EU enlargement. Tadic praises regional summit "These three issues are interconnected and therefore my intention was to make Serbia and the West Balkans the main topic of the summit and emphasize the necessity of integrating the entire West Balkan region into the EU," Tadic underscored. The West Balkan area is the junction of Europe, a crossroads of energy flows and the area where it is possible to produce energy, primarily electric energy, but also to distribute it, Tadic said. According to Tadic, the West Balkan countries have a will to join the EU, however, the will itself is not enough, but the whole territory of the West Balkans needs to be made more attractive for the EU integration. The Serbian president pointed out that the summit participants concluded that "none of the European or West Balkan countries can solve economic problems that they face on their own, and the largest countries that had caused the crisis need to stimulate the global economy." "The Serbian citizens need to be clearly told that we cannot handle the crisis on our own and that Serbia therefore needs economic solidarity and unity," Tadic said. Tadic underscored that "without the solution to the economic crisis and an economic boost, the European Union cannot be enlarged."
