EULEX spokesman Christophe Lamfalussy says the EU mission had nothing to do with Pristina's decision to bar entry to Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic. He told daily Politika that EULEX did not decide who could enter Kosovo and that their mandate was limited to monitoring and advising the Kosovo authorities in the areas of justice, police and customs. The Kosovo government is responsible for establishing good relations with its neighbors,” said the spokesman. “Not for one moment was EULEX involved in this process, not even in conveying the request. The final decision was taken by the Kosovo government. EULEX can only be involved in offering escorts once a decision has already been taken,” Lamfalussy explained. Asked whether EULEX would react the same way if the Pristina authorities barred entry to an official from one of the five EU member-states that had not recognized Kosovo’s unilateral independence, after it was announced that the minister’s visit had not been approved because of his statements, the spokesman replied that he could not answer hypothetical questions.
