The opposition Serb Radicals (SRS) have demanded an emergency meeting of the Belgrade assembly to debate an initiative for the dismissal of Mayor Dragan Djilas. SRS councilor Nemanja Sarovic told journalists on Thursday that there are 20 reasons given for his sacking “which show that Dragan Djilas must be dismissed without hesitation, because it is in the best interest of all Belgrade residents”. Radicals want Mayor Djilas sacked Sarovic said that he expects the city assembly to decide on his party’s initiative after the debate, and for Djilas to resign himself. “The demand is backed up by many documents from city administration bodies which the SRS was able to obtain and this is proof of why he must be dismissed,” Sarovic said, adding that his party has a report from the Budget Auditing Agency, and from a special commission set up to investigate corruption in health institutions and a document from a council which confirms evidence regarding the city's role in the Port of Belgrade land controversy. But the Radical official said that the first reason for the initiative is that Djilas “charges for city utility fees which are 10 years old obsolete bills and those that were already paid, threatening citizens with seizure of property”, unless they pay. Sarovic said that Djilas "does not work to the interests of the people, but for his own personal interest", and that he is working in the service of “owners of large capital” such as tycoons Miroslav Miskovic and Milan Beko.
