An invitation sent to the prime minister and his entire cabinet to attend the Pride Parade came in order to clarify their position on this event. This is according to organizers, who said the decision to send the invitation letter came after PM Mirko Cvetkovic was asked in parliament by an opposition MP whether he would attend. Will ministers snub Pride Parade invitation? Boris Milicevic of the Gay Straight Alliance NGO told B92 that the premier's answer implied that he and his ministers would not attend in person. Now, this organization wishes to "have matters clarified". "We, at the organizing committee, have been taken somewhat aback by the manner in which the Serbian prime minister, Mr. Cvetkovic, answered the MP's question. And we are under the impression that the premier wished to clearly distance himself from an event that concerns a large number of Serbia's citizens – lesbians, gays and their friends and families. This is about five to ten percent of the population, who are, after all, voters," said Milicevic. The parade's organizing committee sent an open letter to Cvetkovic, asking whether the government has debated the event in one of its session to date, and whether it had decided not to send any of its members to attend. The committee stressed that the presence of the prime minister or the government would be of invaluable importance for improvement of LGBT community's human rights in Serbia.
