U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden will arrive here for a one-day visit in the second half of May, writes daily Blic. The newspaper says it will be the most important American diplomatic visit "since June 1980", when then U.S. President Jimmy Carter was in Belgrade. It is still unknown whether he will meet with other regional leaders once in the Balkans, the newspaper writes. The visit will come after Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic's trip to Washington last week, where he met with Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Biden's advisor for national security, Anthony Blinken. Analysts noticed that Jeremic has not met with U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, but with her deputy. After meetings in Washington, Jeremic announced a visit by a high American delegation mentioning intensified dialog and mutual wish for improvement of bilateral relations. Jeremic also said that it was clear that no progress had been made regarding the most serious problem in relations between the two countries – Kosovo. Professor Vatroslav Vekaric, member of Serbian government's Foreign Policy Council, says that it would be good for the U.S.- Serbia ties to improve, "especially having in mind that America has a new administration led by President Barack Obama". The last high level meeting of officials of the two countries was in September of 2006 when Serbia President Boris Tadic met with then vice president Dick Cheney and secretary of state Condoleezza Rice.
