Parliament resumed its session today with a debate on this draft bill, which, it is hoped, will stabilize and streamline the political scene in the country, claim the proposers. New law to streamline political scene Under the new law, instead of the 100 signatures need up to now, would-be parties would have to collect the signatures of at least 5,000 people over the age of 18, while 500 would be required to form a national minority party. A political party would acquire the status of a legal entity by appearing on the Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ministry’s register. The new law would also require parties to renew their registration every eight years. Parties with at least one parliamentary mandate would be exempt from this provision. Parliament (Beta, archive)
