Italy will not withdraw from the KFOR structure, nor will it reduce the number of its members in the NATO mission in Kosovo. This country will not opt for such a move until an agreement is reached on the level of the entire alliance, for which there are no official announcements, Italian Deputy Defense Minister Giuseppe Cossiga has stated. Official: Italian troops stay in KFOR In an interview for Belgrade daily Politika, Cossiga said that the protection of the Serb and other non-Albanian population in Kosovo, as well as of the Serb monasteries and churches within their jurisdiction, will remain the priority of the Italian military mission which numbers around 2,400 soldiers. Cossiga underscored that he "very much values what Serbia has achieved at the political, economic and security level on its path towards the Euro-Atlantic integration". He pointed out that it is "crucial that Serbia should continue the initiated Euro-Atlantic integration process and thus prove that it by all means belongs in Europe".
