The draft for the Vojvodina statute and the accompanying law on the province’s jurisdiction should enter parliamentary procedures this week, daily Danas writes. By the end of the month, the Vojvodina assembly will adopt its budget, Democratic Party (DS) provincial board president Dusan Elezovic told the daily. Statute and law in parliament this week? According to its sources, the draft on the provincial jurisdiction should be before the government on Thursday, March 12. Elezovic denied speculation that the statute draft could be returned to the Vojvodina assembly for further debate. “The three-member government commission which deals with the law for carrying over jurisdiction to the province is finishing its work and according to assurances I have received from the Vojvodina executive council president, the statute draft and the accompanying law will be in parliamentary procedures by mid-March,” Elezovic said. However, the newspaper's sources claim that the government commission made up of the justice, education and NIP Ministers, Snezana Malovic (DS), Zarko Obradovic (SPS) and Verica Kalanovic (G17 Plus), has only had one meeting in the dozen days it has existed and that the jurisdiction law is not close to being completed. Dragoslav Petrovic, an MP of the DS-led For a European Vojvodina provincial assembly group and a DS official, told Danas said that it would be surprising for him and everyone else who worked on the draft of the jurisdiction law, if the statute were returned to the Vojvodina assembly for further harmonization and changes. However, Tamas Korhec, the provincial secretary for regulations, administration and ethnic minorities, told Danas that there is some possibility that the Vojvodina assembly could withdraw the proposal. “I am not sure it it's possible it is to withdraw the statute, because we still do not have a draft of the jurisdiction law. When it is finished, it is theoretically possible that the provincial assembly proposes a change in its own act in order to harmonize it with this law,” Korhec said. Once the state and provincial parliaments finish the draft for the jurisdiction law, it will be given to the Vojvodina assembly for adoption and then sent to the state parliament together with the statute draft. The draft document has been criticized by the opposition, but also by the ruling Socialists (SPS).
