Kosovo Ministry State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic believes conditions are not yet ripe for direct talks between Belgrade and Pristina. While Serbian officials are demanding that internationally-mediated negotiations begin over the six-point plan, which was accepted by the UN Security Council at Serbia’s proposal, Albanian politicians want Serbia to accept the reality of Kosovo’s independence. “Too soon for Belgrade-Pristina talks“ Ivanovic said that the Serbian government did not recognize Hashim Thaci as the prime minister of an independent state, and added that he was wanted by Serbian courts. “It goes without saying that the Kosovo government is a factor. And as far as Thaci’s offer to come to Belgrade is concerned, it’s very nice of him to offer in that fashion, but I just think it might be a problem for him to return, given the charges that stand against him,” said Ivanovic, speaking to B92. Kosovo MP Ilber Hisa said that closer cooperation between Serbs and Albanians was unavoidable and the first step in that process would be direct discussions between Kosovo and Serbian officials. “Perhaps it will take time, perhaps it will be more painful, but in any case, these two old nations somehow need to reach an agreement in order to prevent the one from hindering the other in their common pursuits,” said Hisa.
