A group of seven non-governmental organizations have named the leader of the Independent Liberal Party in Kosovo, Slobodan Petrovic, “Personality of the Year.” The “Kosovo Tree” award was handed to Petrovic at the OSCE offices in Pristina. President of the Kosovo NGO Assembly Nexhmedin Spahiu gave the award to Petrovic, stating that he brought “the spirit of civil society” to politics. OSCE Mission Chief in Kosovo Werner Almhofer said that one could not hide the fact that someone tied to the government was receiving the reward, but that the motivation for naming Petrovic was acceptable and understandable. Petrovic is a member of the Kosovo assembly’s presidency. His party has five MPs and leads two ministries in the Kosovo government—for Return and Community and Social Policy.
