New Code to speed up European laws

The European Integration Office announced yesterday that Serbia had fulfilled 29 percent of the National Program for EU Integration. It was stated that in the second half of 2008, of a planned 89 laws, 26 had been adopted. New Code to speed up European laws According to the results of a progress report on program implementation, the government had rubber-stamped 49 of the 64 laws, 17 of which had been adopted by parliament. Parliament’s poor performance in terms of passing the required laws for European integration could be changed with the adoption of a new Code of Procedure, a debate on which is due to begin next week. Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said that the session would be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday at the latest. “I have not yet scheduled the session; I’ll schedule it on Friday if the text of the proposed changes and annexes to the Code of Procedure is finished. It would be good if the session could be on Monday, Tuesday at the latest,” she said. The speaker announced that the amendments and annexes to the Code of Procedure would be the sole item on the agenda, provided no other law landed in parliament under urgent procedure, in the meantime.
