The U.S. government has donated electronic equipment worth USD 33,000 to the District Court in Belgrade. The gift was presented by U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter. The donation will enable the purchase of a special explosives detector at the Palace of Justice. U.S. in donation to District Court The U.S. donation is destined for the organized crime and war crimes sections housed within the Special Court building. “This court is an important institution on Serbia’s road to a European and democratic future, as it helps in combating organized crime and corruption, and in trying war crimes,“ said Munter. The ambassador reiterated that it was these two sections that had been responsible for the most sensitive trials, including the murder of the late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, and the Ovcara and Scorpions cases. The purchase of the explosives detector will help boost security in the building, which has been a frequent target of hoax bomb tip-offs.
