A Montenegrin delegation led by Deputy Speaker Rifat Rastoder was in Pristina yesterday. For the first time since recognizing Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration in October, a Montenegrin delegation visited Pristina at the invitation of the Association of Kosovo Montenegrins and met with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, Assembly Speaker Jakup Krasniqi and Community and Returns Minister Sasa Rasic. Montenegrin delegation visits Pristina “We have enough information to come to the house of a friend, to open the doors of that house to resolve every issue of common interest. One of those issues is, of course, the position of the Montenegrin minority, like every other minority in Kosovo,” said Rastoder. President of the Association of Kosovo Montenegrins Slobodan Vujicic said it was time for the Kosovo government to stop equating Montenegrins with the Serb or any other communities, saying such a stance led to the “assimilation of one community into another.” Vujicic told a conference at the Center for Information and Cooperation in Ajvalia that Montenegrins wanted to be part of Kosovo society, but that they must first be allowed to return to the Kosovo Constitution. Kosovo Local Self-Government Minister Sadri Ferati said that the Kosovo institutions were open to accept all communities that wanted to integrate into the Kosovo system. “If, in our society, that acceptance has been given to and used by every other minority—Serbs, Gorani, Bosniaks, Roma, Ashkali, Egyptians—why not Montenegrins too, if they want it? If they do, we will consider our society all the wealthier,” said Ferati. In addition to solving the status of Montenegrins in Kosovo, Montenegro is prepared to discuss dual citizenship with Pristina. “We are now working on that agreement with the Serbian state and have made considerable progress in that process, and we really are open to signing similar agreements with all the former Yugoslav republics,” said Rastoder. The Montenegrin delegation included Human and Minority Rights Minister Fuad Nimani, Deputy Consular Affairs and Diaspora Minister Dragan Djurovic, Deputy Interior Minister Osman Subasic, and presidential adviser Sonja Tomavic.
