Vojvodina is already running late in opening its representative office in Brussels, daily Dnevnik writes today. So said the daily’s sources from the European Commission’s Committee of the Regions Vojvodina late in opening Brussels office They stated that Istra had had an office in Brussels for many years, while the Republic of Srpska (RS) and Sarajevo Canton had also opened up representative offices in the Belgian capital. They said that the role of regional branches in Brussels was to prepare better application of EU funds, represent and promote the region, and make contact with other regions. The sources from the Committee of the Regions informed Dnevnik that the "rules of the game“ and the division of responsibilities between states and regions were clearly defined, and that there was no scope for speculation. “A very precise division of responsibilities is in place, and everyone knows what powers states have, and what powers the regions have. Even German provinces that enjoy the greatest autonomy in EU states can in no way substitute or represent Germany as a federation,“ the sources said. They added that regions did not open missions or embassies like states, but rather, representative offices, while their employees did not have diplomatic status.
