The UN mission in Kosovo has announced the start of a new round of technical talks between Belgrade and Pristina for early 2009. UNMIK said that the talks will be conducted with the participation of the international community, RFE reported Sunday. "Belgrade, Pristina in technical talks" UNMIK spokesman Russell Geekie said that the talks would be direct, with the participation of Serb and ethnic Albanian experts in the presence of international experts. Although the details remain unknown, the most important is that a direct dialogue between experts will be conducted on technical issues, with the participation of UNMIK of EULEX representatives, Geekie stated. He could not say exactly which international representatives would be active in the dialogue, but recalled that, as far as the rule of the law in concerned, UNMIK police stopped operating on Dec. 9 and that this sector is now under EULEX's jurisdiction.
