The government will on Monday repeat its appeal to trade unions consideration the situation in the country and agree to the collective agreement. This was announced on Saturday by the Cvetkovic cabinet. Govt. to repeat appeal to unions If the plea falls on deaf ears, and unions choose to ignore the demands of employers and foreign investors, the government representative will withdraw his signature for the publication of the document, officials said. Friday's session of the Social Economic Council failed to reach full agreement on this issue and the Union of Employers has demanded that the agreement, known as the General Collective Contract, be suspended for all employers. Last week government representatives proposed that the General Collective Contract be postponed for six months. Union representatives told Tanjug that "it is not a question of implementing Article 32 of the General Collective Contract", which pertains to various benefits, but that "someone does not want the General Collective Contract, which means that they also do not want other collective contracts, thus opening up possibilities to employers to do as they please".
